Pasture Rangeland Forage (PRF) for Hay

The Pasture Rangeland and Forage Pilot Insurance Program was designed for grazing acreage but also haying acreage. Many hay producers don't know that this program is available for them too. It is often overlooked and seen only as drought protection for rangeland acreage. However it is available for haying ground as long as it is a perennial hay crop. A good example for the PRF program are the alfalfa growers. Alfalfa is a very important crop throughout Oregon, California, Nevada and Idaho. However many producers don't think that the Pasture Rangeland and Forage is available to them.

PRF for Hay is the same program as for grazing. One difference though is the County value per acre. In many counties the value per acre is much higher for haying than it is for grazing. Therefore the overall insured value may be higher. Pasture Rangeland and Forage for hay can be available for irrigated hay and in some areas non-irrigated hay.

  • It is simple and insures against one peril, lack of rainfall.
  • It doesn't measure your own production.
  • If precipitation is less than 90% over a given interval a claim is triggered.
  • Enrollment for 2021 must be complete by November 15th, 2020.
  • Available in every county in the 48 contiguous states.
